2. InvestinJerkyDirectbusiness cards and samples of jerky, and commit to offering a sample of jerky and having a conversation about your business with everyone you meet. Commit to distributing a set number of business cards every day or every week. Get a card or an email address from everyone who shows an interest.
3. Entereverycontactandtheiremail address into your computer and make sure each gets an email daily at first and then at least weekly thereafter. Send a series of short, encouraging notes about your busi- ness and what you’re doing, inviting them to join you.
4. Attendorholdatleastoneliveoppor- tunity meeting or group opportunity call every week with people in your upline or downline. Invite prospects to as many of these as possible. You need contact with others who are positive about doing what you do every week. If you don’t have that contact, life will get in the way and your Jerky Direct business will become a hobby rather than a money-making enterprise.
5. Maketwoorthreefollow-upcallseach week to each of your new enrollees during their first 30 days to make sure they’re keeping their commitments to themselves. Call them at least once a week thereafter. After that, stay in touch with them at least monthly.

Spend 25% of the time you’ve de- cided to invest in this business, on a weekly basis, on your own personal development—reading, listening, set- ting goals, planning, etc. At first you may feel this is an unnecessary habit, but of all six, this is probably the most vital to insure that the others happen.
These 6 standards are simple habits that will compound over time to create for you an enor- mous income. They’re easy to do, but also easy not to do. If you want to succeed, none of them is optional.
The definition of commitment is doing the thing you said you would do, long after the mood you said it in has left you. In any serious en- deavor that really matters to your bottom line, life will get in the way. You have to have a strong enough commitment. You need a year-long commitment to your goals and habits to give them a chance to work for you.
Print these standards and put them on the fridge. Review them daily, and be sure you stay on track. You’re not driving for a quick paycheck at first. Your goal is consistent habits that will duplicate and drive your money making machine.

It may surprise you to see how people who are insulin resis- tant react to food. Those who don’t have insulin resistance watch them with wonder. They think their appetite is out of control. Why? Because those with insulin resistance don’t think about food like you and me. The out-of- balance chemicals in their bodies and their brains literally force them to think constantly about food. Whenever they get close to food, their natural instinct is to devour it. That’s how powerful in- sulin is in their body. The advice from most weight loss systems is to snack on many small, healthy meals throughout the day, but the options for insulin-resistant people are limited. Their “small meals” mean a Cup-o-Noodles, donuts, candy
Insulin-resistant people need slow-burning, high protein food to slow down the sugar con- version in their body and shut off the hunger chemicals. And they need it a half hour before they are hit with intense cravings or the temp- tations of a huge meal or party buffet.

A Letter from Our Founder August 2009
Dear Jerky Direct Distributor, If you’re new to Jerky Direct, I want to welcome you and give you a little background
on our company.
Company background
In February 2004, Jerky Direct began as a unique direct marketing company with a simple compensation plan offering monthly commission checks for those who earn them, a free website, and, of course, our great natural and organic jerky, free from harmful ingredients.
Our company slogans included the “Simple 6” program for those who want to recruit and receive Jerky at reduced or low cost or add to their personal income by sharing the product and opportunity. The product and opportunity are exceptionally affordable. It is easy to approach people.
We made this promise that we intend to keep: The Distributor is our most important asset. We will never do anything to hurt the Distributor unless it is absolutely unavoidable. That is our guarantee.
As a product, jerky was a great beginning but was never intended to be the end. We added products outside the jerky line such as personal care and nutritional products to help expand the opportunity for everyone. We made some compensation enhancements as well.
We got mixed reactions from our Distributors, and many of you requested that we return to the simplicity of our meat snack and Fruit Stix products along with the original compensation plan. We listened, and in October 2008, we created a new company – JD Premium – with a different compensation plan that has the potential for a very good income and expanded product line for those willing to work it.
Jerky Direct returned to its original, simple product line and opportunity. Although JD Premium has taken a great effort to launch and get underway, we want you to know that we haven’t forgotten Jerky Direct. We still feel Jerky Direct is a unique, fun and outstanding opportunity.
Jay Hebdon, the former CEO of both Jerky Direct and JD Premium is no longer with us. Any time you have a change of that magnitude, it takes time to sort things out. Josh Anderson is the new CEO of JD Premium. Jerky Direct will return home to it’s original home and the CEO will once again be Brad Zundel. He and his team at our jerky facility will once again serve you as they have from the beginning.
Jerky Direct has weathered some storms. For example, one challenge identified at our first meeting was shipping costs—the US Mail Service. We control most of our costs internally with that one exception. Shipping continues to go up. So when we added freight costs, many people dropped out. We learned that this is a very price sensitive business. But we found that as we recruit new people who were not involved during that transition, they accept and deal with it more easily.
No one can guarantee the purchase price of jerky because of the price of meat, other commodities and labor. They continue to go up. In the current Jerky market, our competitors are dealing with these price increases by lowering the weight of jerky in each bag. This might be an option to keep our prices reasonable. Weight may have to go to 3.5 or 3.75 oz. instead of 4 oz. for the same price but we are doing all in our power to avoid this at the present time.
Our main competitors are the “commodity” jerky brands sold in convenience stores and “big box” stores. We can not compete with the bargain bin “commodity” jerky in the big box stores, such as Sam’s or Walmart because of their volume purchases and the structure under which they buy and sell products but our jerky will never contain the growth hormones or the artificial ingredients that those bargain brands contain either.
Separation between Jerky Direct and JD Premium
In setting up JD Premium under Jay Hebdon’s direction, there were some people in Jerky Direct who chose to leave Jerky Direct or become involved in both opportunities. Free agency is very important to me as an individual. In our policies and procedures there are no restrictions on our Distributors becoming involved in other companies. It’s a free choice. But this brings up a concern with some Distributors who feel we should no longer offer this choice on an ongoing basis.
We recognize that there is an issue here. Henceforth, we’ll make sure that no one has access to Jerky Direct people through the newsletter or any other means of communication to offer them another opportunity. If we have offended you in the past in this regard, we ask your forgiveness. If you see that happening, please make us aware of it, and we will address it with those involved.
With our pure jerky and Fruit Stix product line and the profit structure we have at this point, there is not a lot of room in Jerky Direct for some of the services and frills that exist in many network marketing companies. We’ll make these available as profit structures allow us to do so.

With Fall clearly in the air and the harvest in full swing, we are all reminded that it is time for some of our favorite activities. Football games, hunting with friends and family and traveling to and from holiday destinations. All of these activities bring up the perfect opportunity to stock up on plenty of Jerky Direct Meat Snacks and share them with all of our family and friends.
It is a guarantee that once you tear open a bag of delicious Jerky Direct snacks, you will have plenty of help polishing it off. As we launch into another Fall season and as Jerky Direct comes full circle back to its original home, we are all reminded of what a great concept Jerky Direct has always been. It is clear that you all agree with us and the phone lines and emails have been busy with excitement. Because of that, it seems appropriate that we take this opportunity to address those questions in this newsletter that we are hearing most often. In that way, we can all be more secure in knowing what exciting things the future might hold!
Question: Can we still contact Jerky Direct by phone, fax or email?

Answer: In the face of current upswings in raw material prices and shipping costs, we consider Job #1 to be holding the line on all costs and maintaining the prices where they currently are while at the same time, maintaining all payouts and compensation levels at the present levels. As with anything, there is no way to guarantee the cost of anything but our commitment to you is to hold the line as long as possible and find economies-of-scale that will continue to allow us to offer the world%s finest meat and fruit snacks delivered to your door at competitive prices. All that with the added opportunity to make some extra money!
Question: Will the new staff be proactive or will we still have a lack of communication and action?
Answer: While history has shown us !with such classics as the Model T or the Winchester Lever Action 30-30″ that sometimes the best change is no change at all, Jerky Direct is committed to respond and reply to each and every one of you and your questions and you should generally hear back from us in no less than 1 $ 2 business days. So remember to check your email! As for action, Jerky Direct will not hesitate to take action when it is called for and prudent while we continue to work what has been proven to work well.
Question: Will we get the copyright changed from 2008 to 2009 on the websites? Answer: The Internet Gurus have been contacted and we smell smoke coming from their cubicle so it
is very likely that this could take place even before you read about it here! Question: Will the Newsletters be removed from the front of our websites?
Answer: I recently noticed that some new folks had showed up at our local church. It was pretty clear that they had never really been the church-going type in the past. Our minister invited them to sit in a specific row and I noticed that the row had no hymnbooks in it. I asked the minister later why he had done that and he explained &Until they are converted, why should we bother them with such details?’
Here at Jerky Direct, it has been and will continue to be our opinion that new converts need all the details we can share with them and we hope you can see the wisdom in that as well. We will do our very best to make this newsletter something significant and worthwhile for anyone to read, whether that person be new to the concept or someone who has been enjoying the benefits of Jerky Direct for years.

As we embark upon a new year and a new decade as members and friends in Jerky Direct, it seems like a good opportunity to take a glance back at where we have come from. It is my experience that doing so can often help give a good indication of where a person might be headed. One hundred years is a nice round number and many of us have grandparents, aunts and uncles that were very much a part of what was happening in the 1910’s.
•   The average U.S. workingman earned less than $15 per week, working from 54 to 60 hours, and there was wide irregularity of employment.
•   The Western Pacific Railroad reached Oakland, California. It was the last of the country’s transcontinental lines.
•   The Cunard Liner R.M.S. Mauretania sailed from Cobb to New York in 4 days, 20 hours, 41 minutes to set a new transatlantic speed record that stood until 1929.
•   Glenn M. Curtiss flew from Albany to New York in 150 minutes to break the long-distance speed record and win a $10,000 prize put up by Joseph Pulitzer’s New York World.
•   ”Barney” Oldfield drove a mile in 27! seconds at Daytona Beach, Florida, setting a speed record of 131.724 miles per hour that stood for years.
•   The United States had 1,000 miles of concrete road, up from 144 miles in 1900. Steel began to replace wood in U.S. automobile bodies.
•   Black & Decker Co. was founded in Baltimore by local tool-and-die cutter Duncan Black, who sold his car for $600, borrowed $1,200 from a bank, and went into partnership with fellow tool-and-die cutter Alonzo Decker, renting a warehouse in Calvert Street and making tools—a bottle-cap machine for a local dairy, a vest-pocket adding machine and a device for the government that splits and coils stamps.
•   The Miami Herald began publication December 1 to serve a city whose population was under 6,000.

•   Sunbeam Corp. had its beginnings in a company started by the Chicago Flexible Shaft Co. to make kitchen appliances. The company had been making tools for grooming farm animals.
As you can see, we have enjoyed spectacular change and progress while in a few ways, life has not changed a great deal. It would be another 50 years before Jay Van Andel and Richard DeVos would give birth to Amway and pioneer the concept of direct marketing. A decade later, Roger Ball would rock the snack food industry with his innovations and advancements in the meat snacks but as a result of such pioneers, we now have the opportunity to combine these great concepts – Jerky and Direct Sales!
A couple of the things that our predecessors needed just as much as we do are nourishment and money. Jerky Direct is an opportunity born in the 2000’s that provides exactly that. Where else can a person enjoy a tasty source of protein that is low fat and not loaded up with carbs and also have the chance to have that snack source paid for or even make some extra spending cash? And when Roger Ball determined to bring this concept to life, he looked back to those same predecessors and was determined to create a jerky like they would have made – a jerky containing no artificial ingredients, preservatives or added hormones. This ensures that each and every bag is a delight to the taste buds and completely safe for you, your family and all your friends. Thank goodness for history and the lessons it can teach us!
SUPER FOOTBALL PARTY MIX
As we prepare for all the upcoming big games, be sure and order some extra jerky to get you through all the instant replays and sudden death overtimes. Here is a neat idea to try for your next big game!
Ingredients
•   4 cups each Corn Chex, Rice Chex and Wheat Chex •   2 packages (3 ounces each) Beer Nuts •   1/2 cup butter, melted •   1 envelope taco seasoning or ranch seasoning
•   1 package (4 ounces) Jerky Direct® Beef Jerky Directions
•   In a large bowl, combine cereal and nuts. In a small bowl, combine butter and taco/ranch seasoning. Pour over cereal mixture and toss to evenly coat.
•   Transfer to two greased 15-in. x 10-in. x 1-in. baking pans. Bake, uncovered, at 250° for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Stir in beef jerky. Cool completely, stirring several times. Yield: about 13 cups.

Now that the New Year is well underway and we are all doing great on our resolutions, let’s take a moment to examine the business opportunity that we are all involved with at Jerky Direct a bit closer. People generally think of network marketing as people selling products to other people. There is also a component related to recruiting other people into your network or team. The focus is usually on making money and creating residual income in order to improve your lifestyle, have more time and freedom and also to acquire and enjoy luxuries that are often out of reach for most people but the potential of network marketing is even bigger than all that. It is about having the potential to be a POWERFUL force.
You first need to understand the basic concept behind network marketing before you can understand the amount of POWER that we are talking about. The theory (and reality) of network marketing is that a very large number of people each do a small thing. If the goal is to sell a product such as jerky, then you create a NETWORK of people who all eat jerky and like it enough to tell other people. Those people also then eat jerky and tell even more people. If you know anything about math, you see how this group can grow exponentially. Even if every single person only recruited two people, based on Metcalf’s Law, in as quickly as six months there could be over 500 people in that network.
The beauty in this and the POWER is that no one person needs to be superman or superwoman and sell large quantities of products or recruit large numbers of people for it to grow. Instead, people need to do a little bit, consistently and model this for those they sell to or recruit. They need to train their downline to duplicate what they have done (ie: sell to 5 people, or recruit 3 people). Their downline, in turn needs to train all their people to do the same. This is how successful network marketing teams and business operate.
2010 will be a great year for each of us in Jerky Direct and it will give back to us what we put into it. If we are fans of quality meat snacks and love having them delivered to our door each month for a fair and reasonable price, Jerky Direct is a great fit. And if we have friends that also love all-natural or organic jerky at those same prices delivered to their homes and we don’t mind sharing a great idea, then Jerky Direct can also become a profit center and bless our lives in that way. Whether you share this idea with just a person or two or you chose to tell everyone you know, the great benefit that we have in this company is that no one ever seems offended or upset to hear about such a fun and delicious business idea. Recipe Corner
Jerky Stew
1 lb. Jerky Direct jerky (beef or buffalo) 2 c. whole dried hominy, soaked overnight in ample water 1 lg. yellow onion, peeled and chopped 1 lb. unpeeled potatoes, diced Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Break the jerky up into 1-inch pieces and place in a heavy, lidded kettle. Drain the hominy and add to the jerky, along with the onion. Cover with water and bring to a boil. Simmer, covered, until the hominy is tender, about 2 hours. You will have to watch this closely, as more water will have to be added as you go along. Add the potatoes and cook for an additional 20 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

HOW CAN I SPREAD THE WORD?
So let’s just say you have been a member of Jerky Direct for several months now or maybe even a year or two and you have become addicted to these all-natural and organic meat snacks. The inevitable conclusion that we all reach is that it sure would be nice to get some or all of our monthly purchase paid for since everyone’s favorite jerky is “free” jerky! Or better yet, maybe build a group underneath ourselves that would even put money in our pocket every month. But how do you even start and who would you talk to about this great product and opportunity?
One of the most solid concepts in network marketing is that of the “Warm List” or better yet, the “Hot List”. This is done by writing down 100 names of people within your circle of influence. Begin with immediate and extended family and then continue with people you rub shoulders with in the workplace. People and customers that depend on you for their business are especially great since they are generally very willing to listen to any great idea or opportunity you might care to share with them. Do not stop there. What about your circle of acquaintances at your local church or synagogue? You cannot forget about that band of parents and friends that you stand shoulder to shoulder with each week while watching your kids play soccer in the freezing wind. Or the guy that you trust to fix your 1984 Ford truck each time it breaks down and the list goes on and on. The reality of life is that we all help each other and do favors for each other and people are far more willing to hear what we have to say than we would ever imagine.
Especially when accompanied with a delicious product like the Jerky Direct family of healthy snacks!
Once the list has been made, identify the individuals that you feel you should approach first and then set yourself a goal. Maybe it is one a day or maybe it is one per week – the most important thing is to make the list, set a goal in writing and then tell someone about what you are doing such as a spouse, close friend or other family member. It is amazing how letting another person know what it is we wish to do can incentivize us even more than keeping it to ourselves.
Your Hot List will become your touchstone to success as you begin to share a fun and exciting business opportunity with the people in your ever-expanding circle of influence. Refer to it daily and stick to the goals you have set for yourself and you will be repaid many fold for your efforts.

• Hats and Shirts. The possibility of trying to stock all the t-shirts, polo shirts and hats in the colors, sizes, fabric type and logo type that people may want is unrealistic. No matter what is ordered, it never seems to be what people want and since no one knows what people want better than those people themselves, there will be a change here as well. Anyone desiring shirts, hats or anything that would involve the Jerky Direct name and logo will be welcome to request that artwork be emailed to them and this artwork can then be taken to their own local provider of shirts and hats. These logos are also now available to be pulled directly off your website and you can find them listed under “Printable Materials”. This will guarantee that from now on, everyone will be able to get exactly what they want in whatever sizes they want where they can touch and feel the merchandise or try them on prior to buying and save on freight as well.+

We have all enjoyed the savory goodness of Jerky Direct Meat Snacks as a great way to snack or fill the void between meals or on the road but now it seems that the goodness of high-protein jerky is extending into the ever-popular world of diet and weight loss. WebMD stated recently that high-protein diets have become a popular way to lose weight because emerging research has hinted that protein may be able to satisfy hunger better than either fats or carbohydrates.
RESEARCH BEHIND THE CONCEPT
Participants in a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reported greater satisfaction, weight loss and less hunger when fat was reduced to 20% of the total calories in their diets, protein was increased to 30%, and carbs accounted for 50%. The study participants ate some 441 fewer calories a day when they followed this high-protein diet and regulated their own calorie intake.
Another study, reported in the Journal of Nutrition, showed that a high-protein diet combined with exercise enhanced weight and fat loss and improved blood fat levels. Researchers suggest that higher-protein diets help people better control their appetites and calorie intake.
Diets higher in protein and moderate in carbs, along with a lifestyle of regular exercise are often purported by experts to reduce blood fats and maintain lean tissue while burning fat for fuel without the dieters becoming sidetracked with constant hunger.
Researchers don’t understand exactly how protein works to turn down appetite. They surmise that it may be because a high-protein diet causes the brain to receive lower levels of appetite-stimulating hormones. It may be due to eating fewer carbs and/or the specific protein effect on hunger hormones and brain chemistry.
HOW MUCH PROTEIN DO WE NEED?
We need protein at all stages of life, for a variety of bodily functions. It is the major component of all cells, including muscle and bone. It is needed for growth, development, and immunity to fight off infections and protect the body.
The Institute of Health’s Dietary Reference Intake (DRI) recommendations allow for a wide range of protein intake – anywhere from 10% to 35% of total calories – for normal, healthy adults. For example, on an 1,800 calorie diet, you could safely consume anywhere from 45 grams (that’s 10% of calories) to 218 grams (35%) of protein per day.
However, the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for protein is 56 grams a day for men and 46 grams a day for women. Most Americans have no problem getting this much, but would struggle to take in enough protein to make up 35% of
That said, is it possible to eat too much protein? There are no dangers associated with higher intakes of protein – unless you have kidney disease. To get the potential weight loss benefit, experts advise aiming for around 120 grams of protein a day. If you want to increase your protein intake, do it slowly over the course of a week. To be on the safe side, check with your doctor before adding large amounts of protein to your diet.
HOW WELL DOES JERKY DIRECT STACK UP?

How can you benefit from this? Think of a product that you already believe in. Nothing can truly prepare you for the shock and subsequent fear that comes over you when you realize that you are “not in Kansas anymore” and no one around you speaks or understands English. Fear of sounding or looking like an idiot binds your tongue but the realities of life and our most primal needs (food, water, restrooms to name a few) soon overcome that fear and you take your first step towards conquering a second language. Fear is replaced by the exhilaration of accomplishment and it is not long before you want to try out your new toy with anyone that will listen.
Jerky Direct is a great “new toy” and you will have to search far and wide to find anyone that is not at least interested enough to help you consume your new toy. The road to success begins with your outlook on life. An attitude of resilience, of giving your dreams a real shot and of really giving your all will always pay off in one way or another.

His failures were so renowned that a New York Times reporter once asked him, “How does it feel to have failed seven hundred times?” Instead of being discouraged, Edison casually replied, “I have not failed seven hundred times. I have not failed once. I have succeeded in proving that those seven hundred ways will not work. When I have eliminated the ways that will not work, I will find the way that will work.”
Thomas Edison needed to fail before he was successful. I needed to say things entirely wrong in Spanish before I could learn to pronounce them correctly. In that same way, we all must first take the initiative to try what works and what does not. From then on we learn from the mistakes we make. The only thing left to do is to build upon the experience that we earn when we persevere.
One of the classic examples of never giving in to failure is everyone’s favorite – Wile E. Coyote. In 45 episodes dating back to 1948, his repeated failures while trying to catch the speedy Roadrunner never seemed to dissuade him from his ultimate goal. Hopefully we never have an anvil dropped on our foot or a stick of dynamite explode in our hand while we are sharing the Jerky Direct products and opportunities with our friends and family but we can still learn a lot from a coyote!
Failure is a sign of success. Don’t be afraid of failure. Success is eventually bound to come. Embrace fear as the ultimate teacher. Do not allow yourself to be the one that stops you from obtaining your goals.

Part one is success stories. You want to have lots of them and collect them. Get them down. Make sure they’re easy to tell. It’s like learning to tell a good joke. There are two types of success stories—one is how great the Jerky and Fruit Stix are, the other is about their income in this business.
Here’s how to use success stories. When you talk with

The more you personally have experienced the product, the closer the success story is to you personally, the better. It’s important to always be looking to create a success story with those you’re with. That’s why it’s important to work your warm market, because your friends and family will share success stories with you, and you can keep pulling stories out of them whenever you’re

The second part is telling a little about the products. You need to know how to really describe the product in a compelling way in layman’s terms. Have something you can pull out of your purse or brief case to show them—a package of jerky, a one-page comp. plan explanation, a business card with your website address on it. Carry these with you everywhere you go. Show and tell is far more impressive than just telling. Get people to wonder, “what’s that?” If you’re doing flea markets, shows or fairs, everyone on the team needs to have packages in their hands for show and tell. As people walk by they’ll be curious about what you’re showing to others. It stops people. They all want to know about some new thing. They’ll slow up and stop for a possible sample.

Know what’s on the website about the product. Be prepared to explain organic, grass-fed beef in a fairly strong, but an easy, conversational way. Then you can move into more financial success stories.
The third part of your story is the busi- ness side. Don’t be afraid to talk money. One of biggest prob- lems when people present their story is that they can’t talk money. A new Distributor isn’t making money himself yet, so she’s afraid to talk money. You’ve got to talk money to make money. Be big about the business even if you’ve only been in it one day. You need to present yourself in a big fashion without stretching the truth. All you need to do is present it in a big fashion with plenty of confidence.
Use your money success stories here. Tell them that there are lots of people doing things that aren’t that hard and bringing lots of people into the business.
People are different in what grabs their attention. If I’m a money guy and you approach me with the jerky, you’ve lost me. Eventually I’ll want to know about the product because you have to have both a great product and a great opportunity, but if I’m a money guy, you have to lead with the money. Others need to know first about the product.
You also have to get a feel for how much money is going to grab people’s attention along with how they have to work to get it.

they were going to make $10k a month. Some need a vision for how they can do an extra $500 or $100 a month with a certain level of commitment. Feel them out and see how they respond. You’ll lose some of the best business builders if you don’t focus on what grabs their attention and imagination. Be willing and able to talk about both products and money equally well.
Don’t prejudge people. Practice on everyone. Be consistent at approaching everyone. Beat everybody else out there to the punch, and you’ll be a winner. You’ll be doing the thing that makes the biggest difference in your success. Be out there and meet people.

Why eat Buffalo meat?
It is low calorie, low fat, low cholesterol, and it tastes great! If you didn’t know what you were eating, you would probably think that it was the best beef you ever tasted. Buffalo meat is naturally flavorful and tender. You don’t need to spice up buffalo with a lot of extras or hide the flavor with steak sauces. Buffalo will make any recipe better and tastes great by itself. The flavor, in most meats, is in the fat, but so are the calories, cholesterol and saturated fats. With other meats, you trim off the fat (which you paid for) and try to cook it out and drain it off. But buffalo meat is tasty without the fat. Buffalo meat is satisfying and it is “concentrated.”

How is it best to cook Buffalo?
The taste is often indistinguishable from beef, although bison tends to have a fuller, richer (sweeter) flavor. It is not “gamey” or wild tasting. Bison is low in fat and cholesterol, and is high in protein, vitamins, and minerals. The lack of fat insures that bison meat will cook faster (1/3 faster than beef). Fat acts as an insulator – heat must first penetrate this insulation before the cooking process begins. Marbling (fat within the muscle) aids in slowing down the cooking process. Since bison meat lacks marbling, the meat has a tendency to cook more rapidly. Caution must be taken to insure that you DO NOT OVERCOOK BISON. For good steak cooking, start with a preheated grill or skillet. Apply immediate high heat to the steak to add flavor and seal in juices. Finish slowly over low heat making sure not to overcook. Use long handled tongs to turn the steaks—a fork will pierce the meat and allow the flavorful juices to escape. Avoid using salt before cooking as it tends to pull the moisture out of the meat.

A booth is a great place to bring your new Distributors to hear you make your presentation.
There’s an opportunity for us at the first of every year, and especially in the month of February to attend a lot of health and heart fairs and share our healthy jerky. Remember the month of February is the “heart” month
Many people at these events, especially the other presenters, will be interested in hearing about the Jerky Direct opportunity. You have a semi- captive audience that is already inter- ested in trying samples and possibly getting small business start-up advice.
You’ll definitely want to attend, and possibly even participate with a booth in some of the health fairs this winter. Later in the year you may want to try the farmer’s markets, flea markets, trade shows, and booths of many kinds.
Booths are good for training new Distributors
A booth is a great place to bring your new Distributors to hear you make your presentation. They’ll get to hear you tell your story over and over again. Then they’ll start to practice theirs over and over.
How to plan ahead
There are costs for booths, however, and investing a lot of time and money in booths and seeing few results can be discouraging.
If you want to try promoting Jerky Direct in booths, start small and discover what works best for your team. You may be able to find booths at malls and local fairs at a reasonable cost.
Before you invest in a booth, it’s wise to attend the event first and exchange business cards or get the names of a few exhibitors, especially those who have food products and op- portunities similar to yours. They can
give you suggestions for how to make your booth worth your investment.
In some areas there are insurance requirements if you sell food at your booth. Call Customer Support a couple of months before the event, and we can get you an insurance rider that meets those requirements.
Some Jerky Direct leaders gather so many contact names and business cards at these events that they never have to invest money for a booth. All of the leads become part of a warm market list for a contact like this, “I don’t know if you remember me but when you gave me your card, you suggested that I call and talk with you about Jerky Direct. Did I catch you at a good time?” Then you ask if you can make an appointment ei- ther by phone or in person to share the Jerky Direct opportunity.
If a Distributor in your area or in a nearby area uses booths regularly, you can ask to be part of their team at one of their shows and learn what works well from them.
Make sure you talk with people who are experienced in booths and learn all you can before you make a heavy fi- nancial commitment. Try to get commit- ments and appointments at the booth for one-on-one presentations or for getting your contacts to a home party or oppor- tunity meeting.
The fortune is in the follow-up
When you gather names of interested people at a booth or an event, make sure you email and use the phone to follow up quickly and frequently. Your investment in a booth only pays off if your follow-up is the best part of the proc- ess. Plan it well and plan for continuing to make phone and email contacts until you have ex- hausted the potential in every lead.
Booths for retail sales
You may know some Jerky Direct Dis- tributors who use booths mainly for making retail sales. That’s a good way to make some money, but be sure to talk about the opportunity with every customer. Who knows if he or she is ready for a part-time opportunity? If you don’t ask, you’ll never get a positive answer.
When you share the product, the com- pany, and the opportunity with everyone you meet, you stand to duplicate what you are doing and make a lot more money over the long haul.
How much does your jerky
cost? Every Distributor has to answer that
question, but there are more ways to answer it than you think.
Some new Distributors may squirm as they think of the price of the tough, cheap jerky on the convenience store racks. They may think of the roadside stands or some other inexpensive source for inferior jerky.
But Jerky Direct isn’t a roadside stand or a convenience store. It’s a business opportu- nity and a very affordable way to get the highest quality jerky available anywhere. If you plan to make money in this business, you’ll want to learn a different way of thinking about the cost of our jerky.
Here’s another way to present our price. “Well, that depends on where you’re buying your jerky now. How much jerky do you buy?”
Get an answer then say, “I get it from my own store instead of someone else’s store. Commissions from my order and the or- ders of a lot of other people pay me instead. I don’t have to lose all my profits to the conven- ience store.” That gives you a chance to explain the simple details of the compensation plan.
Here’s another way to answer the question. “Well, that depends on what you’re spending for snacks, especially healthy ones. What snacks do you use all the time? Are any of them healthy protein snacks?”
If they like the idea of protein snacks, share with them the advantages of pro- tein instead of inexpensive, empty carbs:
Proteins are craving busters. They help you feel full longer. You don’t binge on them as much as you do
on inexpensive carbs like chips or candy. They don’t have the negative image of a
“health food snack.” Plus, they taste great.
Some of your clients may be think- ing, “Jerky costs $12.00 a pound. I can get the most expensive cut of beef, buffalo, or turkey and beat that at the meat counter.”
“Well…aside from the inconvenience of chopping, preparing, and cooking, and the fact that it’s pretty hard to eat your steak as a snack…jerky is actually a pretty inexpensive source of protein.”
Two-thirds of the weight of the meat is lost when jerky is slow-processed. The water is gone. So weight-for-weight it’s like compar- ing the price of a pound of raisins with a pound of grapes.
If your steak or deli meat is between $4.00 and $9.00 a pound and Jerky is $18.00 a pound, the two may actually be equal in price.

But before summer is officially out the door, here are some tips for network marketers to help beat those summertime blues!
1. Arrange for some time off! It may seem counter intuitive, but taking some down time is crucial to the health of your business. A change of scenery, new experiences and a chance to slow down and really relax will help you to recharge yourself and increase your creativity. If getting away even for a few days is just not possible at this point, try and schedule some work or activities that are at least different from what you generally do each day. Take the kids for a work day at their grandparents or volunteer at a local soup kitchen for the lunch shift for a day. After all, your mother told you that a change was as good as a rest!
2. Learn something new. Summer is the perfect time to take a class and learn a new skill or master a software program that will help your business grow. Buy the acoustic guitar you always thought you would learn to play someday. Check out the offerings at your local community college or university. Subscribe to an online training site. Many web sites such as About.com offer free tutorials on anything from Word or Excel to Photoshop or other programs that could prove invaluable in your business.
3. Don’t ever stop networking! Just because you are on vacation doesn’t mean you can’t network. People on vacation that are alongside you are also in a “relaxed zone” and are often more willing to talk and discuss new ideas and concepts than when they are at home and in the daily drag. Stay open to connecting with people no matter where you are (cruise ship, beach, amusement park, ball games etc.) and always be sure you have your business cards and information with you to exchange with your new friends.
4. Evaluate goals. Why wait until New Years? If you have goals that are now proving to be a bit too enthusiastic, better to reload now and aim for goals that are realistic rather than getting discouraged and figuring you will start over again after the holidays. Maybe you have had a fantastic year so far and have reached some or all of the goals you had set for yourself. Summertime is perfect for creating or rethinking your business goals. Use this time to write down your goals for the rest of the year or check the progress of the goals you’ve set and tweak them a bit.
5. Host a fun summertime event! Plan something fun and increase business by utilizing Jerky Direct products as part of that event. Family reunions, pool parties, road trips and picnics are all made better when you pull out the jerky and the inevitable question is always something along the lines of “This jerky is fantastic – where did you ever find it?”
6. Use the social networks to your advantage. It seems that at this point, almost everyone you went to high school or college with is on Facebook, Twitter or MySpace. None of us can believe how easy it is to reconnect with friends and relatives that we thought we would only see and speak with once every five years at class or family reunions. 10 Tips On How To Pump Up Your Downline
When you are involved in network marketing, you need to remember that without your downline, you are nothing. This is a concept that each of us understands quite well but often can slip through the cracks when time and events get frantic. It reminds me of the sales clerk at X-Mart that is hurrying about their department checking prices, restocking shelves or taking inventories. They get so involved in the minutia of their job that they fail to notice or acknowledge you, the customer, even if you speak to them or try to get their attention. I always half expect to get an answer along the lines of “Hey buddy – can’t you see I am trying to work here? Stop trying to buy stuff from me!”
So to avoid the mistakes of the above mentioned sales clerk who did not want to be “bothered”, here are ten effective tips for making sure that it does not happen!
1. Treat Your Downline Like Royalty! – Don’t use a lot of hype, pushy sales talk, clichés and mumbo- jumbo in your sales pitch and product info. These people need to understand everything about what we are all selling so talk to them honestly and intelligently.
2. Be Clear – Do not be vague and be concise on your website or presentations. Give a positive call-to- action. Let your downline know what your product is all about. Tell them everything about what you have to offer or how it can benefit them.
3. Keep Your Word – People love it when they know they can count on you. Once you sign them up, continue keeping your promises – they will love you for it!
4. Answer Their Questions – Be prompt when answering emails – they can’t keep till next week. Give each one in your downline as much attention as they need to address all of their concerns. It is never a waste of time to answer their questions and then they will be more likely to stay involved.
5. Share Secrets of Success With Your Downline – You need to let everyone else in on the things that have worked for you! After all, they are not called “secrets” for nothing! Hopefully in this way they will not have to struggle and stress on everything as hard as you did.
6. Do Not Become Too Automated – Give your downline the personal touch and be in contact with them. That takes personal time but will pay off great dividends in the end.
7. Do Not Keep Costs Hidden – Be upfront with all your product costs, shipping, etc. If they know what everything costs, they can feel more comfortable and not worry about the mysteries!
8. Always Offer Contact Info – Put your name and contact information on your site or any printed material. You want these people to know who you are or how to contact you. Who wants their phone calls even if it is during important activities such as football games or afternoon naps!
9. Stress the Importance of All-Natural and Organic – This is really that big of a deal even if they are probably eating a greasy burger and fries for lunch and washing it down with a giant milkshake. Why might it be important that your downline understand why Jerky Direct products are unique and unmatched in the industry?
10. JERKY DIRECT OCTOBER 2010 NEWSLETTER
One of the things we hear most often from anyone that has decided to “build a downline” is that they are encountering resistance and are not sure how to handle the objections that are thrown in their face. In fact, most of us begin objecting to any type of change in our lives before we even get a chance to hear it out completely. Resistance to change is universal.
So maybe it is time to get back to basics. Tom Hopkins of dummies.com has done a great job of breaking this down and has done so in six simple steps. Here are six steps for handling objections or addressing concerns that almost always work in your favor. They also work pretty well in diffusing unusually tense situations, so heed them well.
Step #1: Hear them out
When someone trusts you enough to tell you what’s bothering him, do him the courtesy of listening. Don’t be quick to address every phrase he utters. Give him time; encourage him to tell you the whole story behind his concern. If you don’t get the whole story, you won’t know what to do or say to change his feelings. Don’t interrupt either, because you may jump in and answer the wrong concern. Another advantage to encouraging them to tell you all that they want to say is that it gives you an opportunity to consider the situation and construct your response. It is also more likely that they will then in turn hear you out if they have indeed said all that they wanted to.
Step #2: Feed it back
By rephrasing what his concerns are, you’re in effect asking for even more information. You want to be certain that he’s aired it all so that no other concerns crop up after you’ve handled this one. You’re saying to him, Go ahead. Lay it all on me. Get it off your chest. In doing this, you’re asking him to trust you and also providing yourself an important period of time to plan your response.
Step #3: Question it
This step is where subtlety and tact come into play. If a guy objects to the fact that you are asking Block Walkers to wear a reflective vest while out walking the neighborhood, don’t say, What’s wrong with it? Instead, gently ask, Wearing the vest makes you uncomfortable? If it does, he’ll tell you why. Maybe he’s shy. If so, you have to build his confidence in
the respect the uniform generates and in the authority it lends to him as a participant. By asking how things make people feel, you will get the real sentiment as well as gain trust. Who does not like and trust a person that cares about how things make them feel?
Step #4: Answer it
After you’re confident that you have the whole story behind his concern, you can answer that concern with confidence. Maintain their attention by using his name in your conversation and referring back to the information that he has just shared with you.
Step #5: Confirm your answer
After you’ve answered the objection, it’s important that you confirm that he heard and accepted your answer. If you don’t complete this step, the other person very likely will raise that objection again.
You can confirm your answers simply by completing your answer with a statement such as, That answers that concern, doesn’t it, Bob? If he agrees with you that, your comment answered his concern, then you’re one step closer to persuading him. If he isn’t satisfied with your answer, now is the time to know — not later when you try to get his final decision to go ahead.
Step #6: By the way . . .
Know those three words. They’re three of the most useful words in any attempt to persuade or convince another person.
You use the phrase to change gears — to move on to the next topic. Don’t just keep talking. Take a conscious, purposeful step back into your presentation. If it’s appropriate, turn the page in your presentation binder or booklet. Point to something other than whatever generated the objection. Take some sort of action that signals to the other person that you’re forging ahead.
These six steps, if you learn them and apply them properly, will take you a long way toward achieving your goal of selling others even when they raise objections or concerns.
Sometimes you’ll hear more than one objection or concern. If you start running through all six steps with each objection you hear, you can spend a lifetime trying to persuade these people. Experience helps you tell which concerns you need to address and which you may be able to bypass. You will also find that once you have gained the other person’s trust and handled his objections in a satisfactory manner, the number of objections will dwindle dramatically or end altogether.

JERKY DIRECT NOVEMBER 2010 NEWSLETTER LESSONS LEARNED FROM THE COACH
As we approach this holiday season and Thanksgiving in particular, one of the things that many of us like to give thanks for is the wealth of exciting sports that are suddenly upon us as we follow all of our favorite teams. Whether it is your child’s local youth hockey team or high school football or college basketball or even the World Series, this is the time of year that nearly every sport seems to be underway and as a nation, we do love our sports.
In addition to being a perfect time to enjoy some quality snacks from Jerky Direct with friends and family, sports over the years have offered us many examples both good and bad. Many a parallel has been drawn from the world of athletics. One of the most sparkling examples of leadership and inspiration has got to be the former men’s basketball coach of UCLA – John Wooden. He was born in 1910 and passed away in June of this year. In his 100 years he was able to accomplish many great feats such as ten NCAA Championships in just 12 years! No other college coach before or since has been able to come close to matching that record of success. But it was the way he chose to live his life and the manner in which he treated and dealt with his fellow men that will always be his legacy.
Since we are all involved in a business that requires that we interact with others while teaching them and sharing new concepts with them, it would seem appropriate to more closely examine how it was that Coach Wooden was able to teach and mold an ever-changing group of college boys into perennial champions. Was it because he had extraordinary talent or was his IQ that much greater than the other 100+ Division 1 college coaches? It is true that his program’s success did attract some high profile players such as Kareem Abdul Jabbar and Bill Walton but this did not ensure continued winning or success.
What made John Wooden the greatest coach of all time was also what made him a great human being. It was something that he adhered to and followed on a daily basis and he would have done so no matter what his profession had been. We are talking about his personal creed or as we like to call it today, his personal mission statement. It consisted of seven points as follows:
1. Be true to yourself. 2. Make each day your masterpiece. 3. Help others. 4. Drink deeply from good books. 5. Make friendship a fine art. 6. Build shelter against a rainy day. 7. Pray for guidance and give thanks for your blessings every day.
While an entire newsletter or book could be dedicated to each one of these seven guidelines, they are both simple and self-explanatory. There is not a person on earth that could not benefit from following them and there is no business, conventional or network marketing, that would not profit from adhering to them.
My mother has a great habit of writing down great quotes or thoughts on a chalkboard in the kitchen for all the family to see and be mindful of. These “golden nuggets of thought” as we kids jokingly referred to them as, would become a part of our daily conversation and then put into practice. Chalkboards have now been replaced by whiteboards and iPads, but as business builders and as good citizens, we could all benefit from posting Coach Wooden’s seven rules and reviewing them with frequency.

Ingredients:
RECIPE OF THE MONTH – TURKEY MAC
• 1 (10.5-ounce) can cream of mushroom soup • 1/2 cup skim milk • 1 cup shredded Low-Fat Cheddar cheese • 3 tablespoons finely chopped onion
• 2 cups cooked Whole Wheat elbow noodles • 1 (4-ounce) bag Jerky Direct Turkey Jerky, cut into bite-size pieces • 2 hard-boiled eggs, sliced
Directions:
1. Heat oven to 350°F. 2. In bowl, stir together soup and milk. Stir in cheese, onion, macaroni and Turkey Jerky.
Fold in eggs. 3. Pour mixture into 1 1/2-quart casserole; cover. Bake 30 minutes or until heated
thoroughly.

The organic certification is a strong and consistent program that maintains a high standard of excellence.
For a product to qualify for the “all- natural” claim, all of these qualifica- tions must be met. Our products must have no added hormones or antibiot- ics. It also means they’re minimally processed with no artificial ingredi- ents or preservatives.
“Organic” is a United States Depart- ment of Agriculture certification that includes all the qualifications for the “all-natural” claim, plus the animals and all the plant products they consume must be raised on land that has been free from any chemical pesticides, herbicides, and non-natural fertilizers for at least three years.
Mother animals that were not born or- ganic can never be organic. Only if the mother has been on certified organic land and feed for at least a year will the offspring be qualified as organic for meat snacks
The organic certification is a strong and consistent program that maintains a high standard of excellence. There are a very few production facilities in the United States that are certified or- ganic. Organic
certification is truly the ultimate in quality.
How to tell your Jerky Direct story in the most compelling way
There are three essential parts to a compel- ling Jerky Direct presentation. You deliver your story in whatever order works best for your contact. You can start with a testimo- nial of making money or enjoying deli- cious, tender jerky. Then you tell them more about the product. You follow up with our simple, sensational opportunity. That’s it. It shouldn’t take much longer than a ride to the top floor of an elevator.
People are different in what grabs their at- tention. If I’m a money guy and you ap- proach me with the jerky, you’ve lost me. Eventually I’ll want to know about the product, because you have to have both a great product and a great opportunity, but if I am a money guy, you have to lead with the money. Others need to know first about the product.
You also have to get a feel for how much money is going to grab their attention along with how hard they have to work to get it.
Some people would tune you out if you led with how they were going to make $5K a month. Some need a vision for how they can do an extra $500 or $100 a month with a certain level of commitment. Feel them out and see how they respond. You’ll lose some of the best business builders if you don’t focus on what grabs their attention and imagination. Be willing and able to talk about both products and money equally well.
Don’t prejudge people. Practice your story on eve- ryone. Be consistent. Beat everybody else out there to the punch, and you’ll be a winner. You’ll be do- ing the thing that makes the biggest difference in your success.
The only way to get yeses is through the nos. You have to be willing to take everybody who comes along with whatever mood they happen to be in. How you tell your story is only a small part of the result you will get. Their mood, their mind-set all decide how they will respond. You’re not responsi- ble for the nos, just the number of approaches you make. So make a ton of them and welcome the nos.
Be respectful and courteous, but tell them your 3- part story—product, money, and testimonials in whatever order you choose. If you judge everyone you meet as not being interested or worthy of your time, you’ll end up not practicing your storytelling very much. For your ongoing success, more than anything else, you need practice telling your story.
In fact, if you really want to challenge yourself to become an expert storyteller, instead of counting the yeses, count the nos. Try to get to 99 nos. Try going back and re-pitching the people who already told you no. Give them a new testimonial. The more pitching you do, the better you’ll get, and the more yeses you’ll get. By the time you get to 99, you’ll have a thriving business.
Simply play the numbers game. How many people do you have to approach? What is a true “success month,” “success week,” or “success day?”
It’s a day, week, or month in which you meet your goal. If you need an extra $500 a month in order to make your life what you want it to be, figure out how many stories you have to tell a day, a week or a month to get there. What are your ratios? Give a complete story—money, product, success stories to
…let’s say…20 people. Maybe it’s only 10. Maybe it’s 40. Find out your ratio, then commit to it to get your $500 a month. What if your goal is $1,000 or $5,000 a month? You’ll adjust your contacting until you find your personal ratio. Then you’ll improve upon it.
The first time you set your ratios will be your hardest, because it will always become easier the more you do it. You’ll start duplicating, and oth- ers will start doing what you do and filling your downline. It’s all about duplication and exponen- tial growth.
Telling your story to everyone you meet, espe- cially those you know best (your warm market) is the best way to build this business. Then you’ll get each of your new Distributors to do the same thing. It’s simple to just carry jerky with you eve- rywhere and share it with others. Then strike up casual conversations about what you do. Eighty percent of your success will be with your warm market.
