Now that the New Year is well underway and we are all doing great on our resolutions, let’s take a moment to examine the business opportunity that we are all involved with at Jerky Direct a bit closer. People generally think of network marketing as people selling products to other people. There is also a component related to recruiting other people into your network or team. The focus is usually on making money and creating residual income in order to improve your lifestyle, have more time and freedom and also to acquire and enjoy luxuries that are often out of reach for most people but the potential of network marketing is even bigger than all that. It is about having the potential to be a POWERFUL force.
You first need to understand the basic concept behind network marketing before you can understand the amount of POWER that we are talking about. The theory (and reality) of network marketing is that a very large number of people each do a small thing. If the goal is to sell a product such as jerky, then you create a NETWORK of people who all eat jerky and like it enough to tell other people. Those people also then eat jerky and tell even more people. If you know anything about math, you see how this group can grow exponentially. Even if every single person only recruited two people, based on Metcalf’s Law, in as quickly as six months there could be over 500 people in that network.
The beauty in this and the POWER is that no one person needs to be superman or superwoman and sell large quantities of products or recruit large numbers of people for it to grow. Instead, people need to do a little bit, consistently and model this for those they sell to or recruit. They need to train their downline to duplicate what they have done (ie: sell to 5 people, or recruit 3 people). Their downline, in turn needs to train all their people to do the same. This is how successful network marketing teams and business operate.
2010 will be a great year for each of us in Jerky Direct and it will give back to us what we put into it. If we are fans of quality meat snacks and love having them delivered to our door each month for a fair and reasonable price, Jerky Direct is a great fit. And if we have friends that also love all-natural or organic jerky at those same prices delivered to their homes and we don’t mind sharing a great idea, then Jerky Direct can also become a profit center and bless our lives in that way. Jerky Stew
1 lb. Jerky Direct jerky (beef or buffalo) 2 c. whole dried hominy, soaked overnight in ample water 1 lg. yellow onion, peeled and chopped 1 lb. unpeeled potatoes, diced Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Break the jerky up into 1-inch pieces and place in a heavy, lidded kettle. Drain the hominy and add to the jerky, along with the onion. Cover with water and bring to a boil. Simmer, covered, until the hominy is tender, about 2 hours. You will have to watch this closely, as more water will have to be added as you go along. Add the potatoes and cook for an additional 20 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

HOW CAN I SPREAD THE WORD?
So let’s just say you have been a member of Jerky Direct for several months now or maybe even a year or two and you have become addicted to these all-natural and organic meat snacks. The inevitable conclusion that we all reach is that it sure would be nice to get some or all of our monthly purchase paid for since everyone’s favorite jerky is “free” jerky! Or better yet, maybe build a group underneath ourselves that would even put money in our pocket every month. But how do you even start and who would you talk to about this great product and opportunity?
One of the most solid concepts in network marketing is that of the “Warm List” or better yet, the “Hot List”. This is done by writing down 100 names of people within your circle of influence. Begin with immediate and extended family and then continue with people you rub shoulders with in the workplace. People and customers that depend on you for their business are especially great since they are generally very willing to listen to any great idea or opportunity you might care to share with them. Do not stop there. What about your circle of acquaintances at your local church or synagogue? You cannot forget about that band of parents and friends that you stand shoulder to shoulder with each week while watching your kids play soccer in the freezing wind. Or the guy that you trust to fix your 1984 Ford truck each time it breaks down and the list goes on and on. The reality of life is that we all help each other and do favors for each other and people are far more willing to hear what we have to say than we would ever imagine.
Especially when accompanied with a delicious product like the Jerky Direct family of healthy snacks!
Once the list has been made, identify the individuals that you feel you should approach first and then set yourself a goal. Maybe it is one a day or maybe it is one per week – the most important thing is to make the list, set a goal in writing and then tell someone about what you are doing such as a spouse, close friend or other family member. It is amazing how letting another person know what it is we wish to do can incentivize us even more than keeping it to ourselves.
Your Hot List will become your touchstone to success as you begin to share a fun and exciting business opportunity with the people in your ever-expanding circle of influence. Refer to it daily and stick to the goals you have set for yourself and you will be repaid many fold for your efforts.

We have all enjoyed the savory goodness of Jerky Direct Meat Snacks as a great way to snack or fill the void between meals or on the road but now it seems that the goodness of high-protein jerky is extending into the ever-popular world of diet and weight loss. WebMD stated recently that high-protein diets have become a popular way to lose weight because emerging research has hinted that protein may be able to satisfy hunger better than either fats or carbohydrates.
RESEARCH BEHIND THE CONCEPT
Participants in a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reported greater satisfaction, weight loss and less hunger when fat was reduced to 20% of the total calories in their diets, protein was increased to 30%, and carbs accounted for 50%. The study participants ate some 441 fewer calories a day when they followed this high-protein diet and regulated their own calorie intake.
Another study, reported in the Journal of Nutrition, showed that a high-protein diet combined with exercise enhanced weight and fat loss and improved blood fat levels. Researchers suggest that higher-protein diets help people better control their appetites and calorie intake.
Diets higher in protein and moderate in carbs, along with a lifestyle of regular exercise are often purported by experts to reduce blood fats and maintain lean tissue while burning fat for fuel without the dieters becoming sidetracked with constant hunger.
Researchers don’t understand exactly how protein works to turn down appetite. They surmise that it may be because a high-protein diet causes the brain to receive lower levels of appetite-stimulating hormones. It may be due to eating fewer carbs and/or the specific protein effect on hunger hormones and brain chemistry.
HOW MUCH PROTEIN DO WE NEED?
We need protein at all stages of life, for a variety of bodily functions. It is the major component of all cells, including muscle and bone. It is needed for growth, development, and immunity to fight off infections and protect the body.
The Institute of Health’s Dietary Reference Intake (DRI) recommendations allow for a wide range of protein intake – anywhere from 10% to 35% of total calories – for normal, healthy adults. For example, on an 1,800 calorie diet, you could safely consume anywhere from 45 grams (that’s 10% of calories) to 218 grams (35%) of protein per day.
However, the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for protein is 56 grams a day for men and 46 grams a day for women. Most Americans have no problem getting this much, but would struggle to take in enough protein to make up 35% of
That said, is it possible to eat too much protein? There are no dangers associated with higher intakes of protein – unless you have kidney disease. To get the potential weight loss benefit, experts advise aiming for around 120 grams of protein a day. If you want to increase your protein intake, do it slowly over the course of a week. To be on the safe side, check with your doctor before adding large amounts of protein to your diet.
HOW WELL DOES JERKY DIRECT STACK UP?
Ok – We all agree that Jerky Direct products are delicious and hard to put down but let’s examine how the numbers stack up. A serving of jerky is one ounce and most bags contain four ounces or four servings. Let’s look at five key factors – protein, carbs, fat, calories and sodium.

Most of us can usually finish off a bag by ourselves so that is 44 – 48 grams of protein in one shot. Is there a more well established or natural protein source on earth? CARBS – The Jerky Direct product line falls between five and seven grams of carbohydrates per serving depending on the flavor. This represents only 2% of government established Daily Value and is a perfect fit for the diets we have been discussing here.
FAT – An extremely low fat value of just one gram per serving is the norm on most all of the Jerky Direct products but some such as the Turkey BBQ come in with zero grams of fat. It should be noted that none of the products contain any saturated or trans fats.
CALORIES – All three types of jerky – beef, buffalo and turkey – could be considered low calorie/high protein snacks with calorie counts coming in between 60 and 90 calories per serving.
SODIUM – Sodium content has long been a concern for salt-conscious consumers of jerky and Jerky Direct has taken that concern into consideration. A nationally known producer of beef jerky has consistent sodium values in the range of 600 mg per one ounce serving which constitutes 26% of the aforementioned daily value. If a person was to consume an entire four ounce bag of this company’s jerky, he would have over 100% of his daily sodium in just one snack. Jerky Direct has made a concerted effort to remedy this situation and keep sodium levels under 390 mg per serving with many as low as 270 mg per serving such as the Organic Beef BBQ Jerky. That represents only 11% of the daily value which leaves room for other salt in your day!

SO WHAT IF I FAIL?
What would you attempt in this life if you were guaranteed that you could not fail? Life cannot be handed to you on a silver platter. There is no specific formula that one can follow in hopes of obtaining success. It just doesn’t work that way. We all must face the unknown and gain some experience in some way or another. One of the most foolish things anyone can do is to remain inactive for fear of failure. Once we do that, we have already failed. We all know and understand that nothing comes easily in life.
Fear is an emotion that goes away. I once had the opportunity to learn a second language in a situation that pretty much demanded that I do so. Nothing can truly prepare you for the shock and subsequent fear that comes over you when you realize that you are “not in Kansas anymore” and no one around you speaks or understands English. Fear of sounding or looking like an idiot binds your tongue but the realities of life and our most primal needs (food, water, restrooms to name a few) soon overcome that fear and you take your first step towards conquering a second language. Fear is replaced by the exhilaration of accomplishment and it is not long before you want to try out your new toy with anyone that will listen.
Jerky Direct is a great “new toy” and you will have to search far and wide to find anyone that is not at least interested enough to help you consume your new toy. The road to success begins with your outlook on life. An attitude of resilience, of giving your dreams a real shot and of really giving your all will always pay off in one way or another.
Thomas Edison failed over and over again while trying to invent the light bulb. His failures were so renowned that a New York Times reporter once asked him, “How does it feel to have failed seven hundred times?” Instead of being discouraged, Edison casually replied, “I have not failed seven hundred times. I have not failed once. I have succeeded in proving that those seven hundred ways will not work. When I have eliminated the ways that will not work, I will find the way that will work.”
Thomas Edison needed to fail before he was successful. I needed to say things entirely wrong in Spanish before I could learn to pronounce them correctly. In that same way, we all must first take the initiative to try what works and what does not. From then on we learn from the mistakes we make. The only thing left to do is to build upon the experience that we earn when we persevere.
One of the classic examples of never giving in to failure is everyone’s favorite – Wile E. Coyote. In 45 episodes dating back to 1948, his repeated failures while trying to catch the speedy Roadrunner never seemed to dissuade him from his ultimate goal. Hopefully we never have an anvil dropped on our foot or a stick of dynamite explode in our hand while we are sharing the Jerky Direct products and opportunities with our friends and family but we can still learn a lot from a coyote!
Failure is a sign of success. Don’t be afraid of failure. Success is eventually bound to come. Embrace fear as the ultimate teacher. Do not allow yourself to be the one that stops you from obtaining your goals.

Part one is success stories. You want to have lots of them and collect them. Get them down. Make sure they’re easy to tell. It’s like learning to tell a good joke. There are two types of success stories—one is how great the Jerky and Fruit Stix are, the other is about their income in this business.
Here’s how to use success stories. When you talk with

When you’re first starting out, you don’t have to limit yourself to your own success story. You can use others’ stories…things you read on the website and in the newsletter. The more you personally have experienced the product, the closer the success story is to you personally, the better. It’s important to always be looking to create a success story with those you’re with. That’s why it’s important to work your warm market, because your friends and family will share success stories with you, and you can keep pulling stories out of them whenever you’re

How much are you getting a month?” Gather the best responses and use them for success stories. Those closest to you will want to help you in your business because it’s so affordable and easy.
The second part is telling a little about the products. You need to know how to really describe the product in a compelling way in layman’s terms. Have something you can pull out of your purse or brief case to show them—a package of jerky, a one-page comp. plan explanation, a business card with your website address on it. Carry these with you everywhere you go. Show and tell is far more impressive than just telling. Get people to wonder, “what’s that?” If you’re doing flea markets, shows or fairs, everyone on the team needs to have packages in their hands for show and tell. As people walk by they’ll be curious about what you’re showing to others. It stops people. They all want to know about some new thing. They’ll slow up and stop for a possible sample.

Know what’s on the website about the product. Be prepared to explain organic, grass-fed beef in a fairly strong, but an easy, conversational way. Then you can move into more financial success stories.
The third part of your story is the busi- ness side. Don’t be afraid to talk money. One of biggest prob- lems when people present their story is that they can’t talk money. A new Distributor isn’t making money himself yet, so she’s afraid to talk money. You’ve got to talk money to make money. Be big about the business even if you’ve only been in it one day. You need to present yourself in a big fashion without stretching the truth. All you need to do is present it in a big fashion with plenty of confidence.
Use your money success stories here. Tell them that there are lots of people doing things that aren’t that hard and bringing lots of people into the business.
People are different in what grabs their attention. If I’m a money guy and you approach me with the jerky, you’ve lost me. Eventually I’ll want to know about the product because you have to have both a great product and a great opportunity, but if I’m a money guy, you have to lead with the money. Others need to know first about the product.
You also have to get a feel for how much money is going to grab people’s attention along with how they have to work to get it.

they were going to make $10k a month. Some need a vision for how they can do an extra $500 or $100 a month with a certain level of commitment. Feel them out and see how they respond. You’ll lose some of the best business builders if you don’t focus on what grabs their attention and imagination. Be willing and able to talk about both products and money equally well.
Don’t prejudge people. Practice on everyone. Be consistent at approaching everyone. Beat everybody else out there to the punch, and you’ll be a winner. You’ll be doing the thing that makes the biggest difference in your success. Be out there and meet people.
